Why investors can never go wrong putting money on technology

There are specific industries in the world that are incredibly lucrative. Take real estate, for example. Everyone everywhere will always need space to either live, work, or do the things they need or want to do. That’s why real estate is always a great investment.

Another industry in which investors will almost always see profits is the tech industry. This is why, for so many investors, tech is almost always near the top of the list.

Far too many entrepreneurs overlook the possible net gain of an investment in technology, which is because they have no idea how low the investment cost is compared to the money they can make. Technology indeed may have one of the highest return on investment (ROI) rates in the world today.

From costs and benefits to forecasts and approximations based on several scenarios, technology has proven to be quite a solid investment. It has been one of the most highly sought-after industries in the world. And even with tech’s continued advancement, all the coming and going disruptions, and the additional expenses needed for training, support, and maintenance, tech investments are still very much more profitable than most other investments.

Online risks of working from home or remote networks

It’s no surprise that cybercrime is on the rise given that more and more people are adapting work from home setup. It’s also common knowledge in the cybersecurity industry that cybercriminals often use times of social weakness like emergencies to employ their dirty deeds to cash in on poor unsuspecting victims. Unless you want to become a cybercriminal’s latest victim, it’s important to know online risks which comes with working from home or through remote networks.

Unsecure personal devices
Your office desktop most likely has an anti-malware or a form of cybersecurity program which protects it from most cybercriminal attacks or may inform your IT of ongoing attacks. But if you’re working from home using your personal device, cybersecurity might be lackluster. Using unsecure personal devices to connect to your company’s network could easily give cybercriminals the same kind of access.

Coronavirus-themed attacks

Cybercriminals are known to use real-world emergencies like the COVID-19 outbreak to leverage their malicious emails. They could spoof reputable sources like your bank, the CDC, WHO, or other noteworthy sources of coronavirus updates in order to fool you into downloading a malicious file. If you are aware that your email should not be in a certain database, do not download rogue files. Likewise, if your bank is asking you to click a link and log-in your credentials for updated security purposes, call your bank first.

Choose your VPN wisely
Not all VPN are created equal. Some VPN providers have succumbed to attacks due to vulnerabilities in their systems. This has led to several breaches in corporate networks around the globe. Before you use a VPN service, check first whether or not they have been breached before or if they have previous run-ins with vulnerabilities.

Tech considerations of working from home during a pandemic

One of the main ways business owners have tried to reduce the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is to allow their employees to work from home. This adaptive strategy has worked wonders not just for companies but also for employees, too. Taking a page out of companies that already have employees working remotely even before the global health crisis started, many businesses these days are beginning to look at some of the tech considerations of working from home.

First, employees must have a steady internet connection. Without it, work from home would simply be impossible. Emails cannot be sent, online transactions cannot be completed, and video conference meetings cannot take place, among other things.

Second, most employees who will be working from home need reliable office-issued laptops and other required gadgets. They may use their personal laptops if they will not be saving any sensitive data on it. However, as a security measure, office-issued laptops are preferred.

Finally, while not entirely a tech consideration, people who work from home need space that is free from distractions and noise, especially if they will be handling or attending meetings. Any area that cancels noises is very much welcome to assure an environment that is closest to their office.

Future weather: How technology figures into meteorology

While the weather has always been volatile in most parts of the world, the way by which meteorologists predict it has never been more accurate – thanks to the advancement of technology. Because of modern computers and other electronic gadgets, humanity can forecast some of the most violent storms in recent history, and ultimately minimized the numbers of casualties for the most part.

The technology the world enjoys now is nothing short of jaw-dropping, as scientists, researchers, meteorologists, and governments can now see the formation of extreme weather conditions before these disturbances reach their crescendo. The result is the development of early warning systems all over the world that detect anything from typhoons and hurricanes to tsunamis and tornadoes.

One of the best examples of this was after the devastating Joplin tornado of 2011 that resulted in 550 deaths and billions of dollars in property damages. Engineers and scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA got together and found ways to modernize further their radars, satellites, computers, and other warning systems.

Today, NOAA has launched hardware and coupled these with software to not only detect the onset of potentially dangerous weather but also disseminate the information in real-time. In addition to that, many of the supercomputers developed for meteorology provide more information so that mankind may understand the planet even more, and use this understanding in practical applications.

Tech talk: Why should a company hire a systems engineer?

With a great number of companies today depending largely on digital technology, IT infrastructure, and computer networks, establishing a reliable and efficient system for all the needs of businesses is of utmost importance. Because of this, systems engineers have become indispensable individuals in businesses.

Systems engineers have deep knowledge in all things computer science and engineering and are more often than not thought of as extremely significant figures in the corporate world. They make it a point to check every step of a company’s building of their computer systems and the subsequent maintenance and update of said system.

In almost every industry, companies that use multiple computers and networks have the need for systems engineers. If there’s company software that needs designing or integrating, systems engineers are there. If there are communication networks that need to be put up, systems engineers work closely with specialists. If there are technological devices that need development, systems engineers assist in any way they can.

Systems engineers are specialized professionals who are adept with technology and design. They are brought on board to coordinate, organize, and lead teams of other professionals to achieve the end goal, which is to say a system that is running as flawlessly as possible. And when flaws do appear due to various factors, systems engineers are there to patch things up.

Computers 101: The importance of UPS

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units may seem like an added expense for many computer owners, but at their price and for what they do, they’re more than a bargain. They may not be needed to run a computer, but UPS units provide some of the most important functions as far as peripherals are concerned.

UPS units are the primary safety measure against power surges. This is extremely significant especially during energy fluctuations. The truth of the matter is people have very little real-time control over the flow of electric current. They also have no idea when electrical spikes or sudden blackouts will hit. These are the things that can be catastrophic for computer owners, and these are the things that UPS units shield computers against.

UPS units provide backup power in the event of a power outage. This prevents sudden shutdowns of units and any losses in data or work that may not have been saved. UPS units also regulate the current in case of voltage spikes, making sure that the electrical circuits in computers don’t short out.

Any lightning strike nearby can cause an overload of electricity for anything that’s plugged in an electrical socket in the vicinity. A UPS unit blocks that charge before it gets to anything plugged into the unit, thus saving the appliance.

So, is it a good investment? It sure is.

What the computers of the future look like

Perhaps no other symbol of technology represents the future quite like the computer. In almost everything considered ‘advanced,’ computers in one way or another are involved. From self-driving vehicles to robotics, future tech is anchored in computers.

Computers are now riding the technological evolution. These machines now charge at the forefront, gathering and absorbing every change and every update developed for them. While the physical features of desktops and laptops may not see much of a revolutionary alteration, their functions take on a more intense transformation. And this goes for smartphones as well, since these devices may be considered computers in themselves.

Data processing has been supercharged with the development of not just quad-core, but hexa- and octa-core processors. In the near future, it may only take nanoseconds for computers to load more complex programs. Sure, this may seem like the stuff of science fiction films, but many of the innovations the world enjoys now were once thought of in the same light.

Less than two decades ago, laptops only had 50-100 GB of storage space, and that was considered huge. Nowadays, the norm is 1TB. And with the continued expansion of cloud services, storage may soon be virtually unlimited.

What do you think the computers of the future will be like? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
